Join us for our Fall 2018 Workshop for spiritual directors!

This workshop is the second part of Fr. David McCallum's presentation "Adult Psychological Development and Spiritual Maturity: Ignatian Spirituality Across the Life Cycle." It is being offered on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. You are invited to join us in-person at Le Moyne or participate live online.

Fr. McCallum gave the first part of this presentation in November 2017. A video recording of that workshop is available here.

Seminar Retreat on Giving the Spiritual Exercises in the 19th Annotation Format to Others

This seminar retreat will be led by with Jim Bowler, SJ from Jan. 10–13, 2019 at The Thomas P. Joyce ‘59 Contemplative Center, College of the Holy Cross, West Boylston, Massachusetts. 

The purpose of this seminar retreat is to offer trained spiritual directors who have made the spiritual exercises an opportunity to explore the dynamics of being a spiritual director for this experience. The seminar is structured in a retreat format including periods of discussion, prayer, silence, and the Ignatian dynamic of individual reflection and group conversation.

The seminar retreat will begin with dinner on Thursday, January 10, 2019, and conclude at noon on Sunday, January 13, 2019. The cost is $375 including lodging, meals, and handout materials (excluding required texts).

About the Presenter

Fr. Jim Bowler, SJ currently serves as pastoral minister at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC, focusing on spiritual direction, supervision of spiritual directors, and offering the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. He spent 12 years at Fairfield University, where he served as Vice President of Mission and Identity and led the establishment of the Center for Ignatian Spirituality. He continues to promulgate Fairfield University’s Spiritual Direction Formation Program, where he also serves as an instructor. Before his work at Fairfield, Fr. Bowler served for more than 20 years in the area of spiritual direction as director of Campion Renewal Center in Weston, MA, executive director of the National Jesuit Retreat and Renewal Ministries and as a staff member at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph, Ontario, where he was responsible for training and supervising spiritual directors in the Ignatian tradition.

About the Thomas P. Joyce ’59 Contemplative Center

A place for stillness, reflection, and prayer, the Thomas P. Joyce ’59 Contemplative Center is situated on a 52-acre parcel of land in West Boylston, MA, overlooking breathtaking views of the Wachusett Reservoir. Our spring workshop for spiritual directors will be held on March 30, 2019. The workshop is titled “Spiritual Direction with Young Adults” and will be panel discussion with Rev. Jim Bowler, SJ, Sr. Lisa Buscher, rscj, and Andy Otto at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Charlotte, North Carolina. Join us in-person or participate live online.

We are hosting our first ever Symposium on Ignatian Spiritual Direction at Fordham University from June 27–29, 2019. This event is being co-sponsored by Fordham University. The Symposium will feature plenary and breakout sessions, and will offer time for prayer, reflection and appropriation.
